Why Leeds united decide not to offer legend a new contract offer”

Liam Cooper is one of seven Leeds United players whose contracts expire at the end of the current campaign. Whether Cooper will receive a fresh contract offer is still up in the air.

The 32-year-old may actually move to Stoke City.

In 2014, he became a member of the club under Massimo Cellino. Cooper has played for the Whites in an incredible 277 games.

Although he is no longer the team’s first choice, the defender is still regarded as an important member of the Leeds team. In terms of hierarchy, he ranks behind Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon, but the latter is presently sidelined.

In the transfer window, Leeds is expected to target a left-back and possibly a number 10.

Nonetheless, it is anticipated that a replacement will be signed if a player quits the team. Cooper might be one of them. A tempting summer transfer to Saudi Arabia was declined by him.

Phil Hay recently acknowledged that he wouldn’t be shocked to hear of fresh contracts being offered to Cooper, Luke Ayling, or Stuart Dallas. Cooper is now receiving attention from the club.

With his ten-year commitment to the club, Cooper will surely have Leeds’ agreement before departing and be free to leave whenever he feels it’s suitable. A departure this month would be surprising, though.

After assisting the team achieve their re-promotion to the Premier League, he would dearly love to go.
