Leeds United agree deal to sign star replacement

According to reporter Graeme Bailey, Leeds United is eager to pay less than £10 million to sign Jonathan Rowe, a star player for Norwich City.
Leeds United is looking to add a star winger to their roster after making a big profit on Crysencio Summerville.

As the Whites failed to secure an immediate promotion back to the Premier League, many speculated that the Dutch star, who ended the 2023–24 season as the Championship’s Player of the Season, would be leaving Elland Road.

Summerville’s departure has finally come to pass, joining West Ham, following numerous rumours.

This indicates that focus has shifted to finding a replacement for him at Elland Road, with Leeds United pursuing Norwich City star Jonathan Rowe. This week, there were reports of a £7 million move; more claims have surfaced regarding the same subject.

Reporter Graeme Bailey of Leeds United News asserted that the Yorkshire giants hope to sign Rowe to a contract at Elland Road for less than £10 million in total. Norwich, a Championship rival, are also open to the idea of a sale. He declared:

“Leeds are talking to Norwich about Rowe, came up in Sara talks. I’m told they want him for less than £10m overall and it seems they [Norwich] are willing to let him go.”

A steal for Leeds United

Given that Leeds United plays in the same league as Norwich City, many believe Rowe is an ambitious target for Leeds United because he still has years of his career ahead of him.

Many would anticipate the 21-year-old to move to a higher level if a move away from Carrow Road is in store.

The Whites appear to be aiming for an ambitious deal, though, and supporters will be excited by their expectation that a deal could be completed for less than £10 million. For an England U21 international who played in 38 games last season and finished with 13 goals and 4 assists despite some injury setbacks, that would be a steal.

After overcoming his hamstring issue, Rowe may have a successful 2024–25 season, which Leeds United will be hoping he does while wearing their uniform.

Why could Rowe move on the cheap?

It would be fantastic for Leeds United to close a deal for less than £10 million.

But given Rowe’s circumstances at Norwich City, it’s possible that a move would be wise and that the Canaries are willing to part with another important player.

Rowe’s contract is set to expire at the end of the following season, and an additional 12-month extension is not an option.

Thus, this might be their final opportunity to profit from the academy graduate. It’s risky to hang onto him in the hopes that he signs a new contract because elite teams might line up to sign him if he has another successful campaign.

If that occurs, Rowe might have a change of heart, and it might be difficult to tie him down to a new agreement. Therefore, taking a quick profit eliminates the risk—even if it means selling him to Leeds United, a rival in the Championship.
