Leeds United defeats the league leaders.

Leeds United put on a fantastic team show at the King Power Stadium to put a dent in the dominating Leicester City outfit in the Sky Bet Championship.

Georginio Rutter’s goal on 58 minutes denied the Foxes their chance at a club record ninth straight victory, as the Whites solidified third position ahead of the Saturday games.

With over two-thirds of the season remaining, the Yorkshire team’s 1-0 victory reduced the distance to the top place to 11 points.Notwithstanding the outcome, it was a really good game, and it will be shocking if Leicester does not receive immediate promotion.

However, if Leeds can continue to play at the same level as they did against City, they will also give themselves a great opportunity.

Leeds set out to do business right away. Joel Piroe missed a great opportunity after just two minutes as they forced Leicester into errors by applying pressure high up the pitch.

Every time the visitors raced forward, they looked threatening, and after Rutter and Crysensio Summerville fell down in the area, two penalty appeals were turned down.

Leicester’s defence was quite desperate, and it took the home team more than thirty minutes to establish any sort of advantage. Abdul Fataun, a 19-year-old Ghanaian international, produced a wonderful play that nearly put them ahead against the flow of play. He flicked the ball over Sam Byram, who was cutting inside, and crashed a beautiful effort against the Leeds bar.

In a matter of seconds, fast-paced Daniel Farke, the manager of United, was cautioned for his complaints after his team’s second penalty shout was denied.

Leeds started the second half as fiercely as they had started the first, and a corner gave them the advantage. Byram’s header from Dan James’ whipped-in throw forced Mads Hermansen to make a fantastic save, and Rutter was able to tap in the loose ball from close range.

Although Leeds’ free-flowing offence has received a lot of attention this season, the Whites’ defenders stood up to the challenge as Leicester tried to make progress. The home team’s offensive was thwarted by centre backs Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk, while midfielders Glen Kamara and Etham Ampadu were everywhere.

Leicester didn’t have a chance on goal until stoppage time, when Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s header was skillfully deflected out of the top left corner by Illan Meslier. The save gave Leeds a commanding three-point lead from a match that might have easily been played in the Premier League.”To bring such a complex performance on the pitch, on the one hand to be brave and our high pressing, “added Farke, who had his tactics right on.
