The January transfer window is coming to an end, and deadline day is coming up on Thursday.
Before the window closes, there is still a lot of work to be done as clubs try to bolster their rosters in preparation for the final stretch of the season.
West Ham fail in hijack
West Ham has reportedly failed to sabotage Aston Villa’s attempt to sign Middlesbrough star Morgan Rogers, according to The Sunday People.
Middlesbrough, who are requesting at least £10 million for the 21-year-old, has rejected several bids from Villa during their protracted transfer pursuit of him. However, last week, there was speculation that Rogers was eager to move.
West Ham seems to have made a wild bid for the forward after hearing that news, but Boro has rejected the request.
According to recent reports, the Hammers have withdrawn their interest, making Villa the clear favourites to sign Rogers.
Middlesbrough has remained steadfast in their aim to retain Rogers this month, or at the very least sell on their terms, according to EFL72. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that they have turned down West Ham’s interest, especially considering that Premier League teams have so far been unable to offer Boro the player what they want. Since Rogers has a contract that expires in2027, they are not obligated to take a lower offer.
Leeds gets closer to According to Belgian publication HBVL, Leeds United is getting close to signing right-back Daiki Hashioka from Sint-Truiden. Hashioka is a Japan international.
This month, Luton Town and Trabzonspor have both been linked with moves for the Japan international, indicating his high demand.
The 24-year-old, however, is reportedly eager to relocate to England and thinks Leeds is a good option because they have a chance to win the league this year.
The Whites need defensive reinforcements, especially at right-back, so this likely cheap deal makes sense, according to EFL72. If Hashioka decides to move to Elland Road, it would also be somewhat of a coup considering the list of teams vying for his services.
Crystal Palace and Wolves join James race
Two Premier League teams are reportedly in the running for Jordan James, a midfield player for Birmingham City, according to The Daily Mail.
After their asking price was not satisfied, Birmingham withdrew from talks with Italian team Atalanta regarding James. Fiorentina, a Serie A rival of Atalanta, was also linked to the player.
But even without a deal in place, Wolves and Crystal Palace are already considering moves for the 19-year-old.
According to EFL72, “Premier League clubs may match Birmingham’s £10 million asking price if they want to acquire the skilled midfield player.” Birmingham will undoubtedly want a replacement player in place before agreeing to a sale, though, as the window is closing.
