Leeds United open talks for versatile PL star#

Ben Godfrey, a defender for Everton, may be available for loan to Leeds United, according to reports.

Sam Byram, who left Carrow Road in the summer, is also reuniting with the German, and Farke may be excited to catch up with other former Canaries during the January window.

Football Insider has revealed that Leeds is now starting talks with the Premier League team, following initial claims from Calcio Mercato that the club was interested in signing Everton center-back Ben Godfrey.

As the Toffees look to move past their P&S charges and maintain their place in the top flight for another season, Sean Dyche does not currently have the 26-year-old Godfrey in his plans for regular starts at Goodison Park.

The collapse of a January transfer to Atalanta suggests that the Merseyside team is amenable to the York-born centre back departing.

Loan-to-buy in the pipeline for Leeds and Godfrey

The report states that Leeds’ attempts to land the defender could come via an initial loan deal, with an obligation to buy included in the agreement.

Godfrey was of course a vital part of Farke’s Norwich side that won the Championship back in 2018/19, before moving to Everton in the summer of 2020 after the Canaries’ relegation.

The Everton player was a midfielder in his early career before Farke changed him to a defender. In 2021, the player shared this after responding positively to his positive start at Everton.

“I’m delighted for them because they are brilliant lads (Godfrey and James Maddison), fantastic character. Sometimes when you have a little bit of time on the sofa you watch a little bit.

“When I came in we had already sent him out on loan to Shrewsbury and he was a midfield player. We got the feeling that we would make a centre-back or full-back out of him and right now it is in this role that he is playing and shining a lot.”

Godfrey would be a fantastic addition for Leeds

Godfrey would add the depth that Leeds needs to their squad and more, and Leeds would need to start moving quickly during the transfer window.

He can play centre back, right back, left midfield, and any other position in the Championship. He is a surefire starter for any team in the league.

We’ll have to wait and see if we can pull this off, since he will probably be bringing hefty compensation with him.
