Joe Rodon is keen on staying at Leeds United beyond this season, and Spurs could sell the defender for £15m.
The Welsh international was seen as one of the top talents in the Football League when he broke through at Swansea, and his promising displays convinced Tottenham to sign the defender in 2020.
But Rodon hasn’t been able to establish himself as a regular with Spurs, and during the previous season, he didn’t play well for Rennes in France.
It’s safe to conclude that everyone has profited from Rodon’s temporary transfer to Leeds, which was arranged last summer.
As the season draws to a close, the 26-year-old has been Daniel Farke’s go-to backup at the back, and his stellar performances have helped the Whites move up to second place in the standings.
Joe Rodon transfer latest
Rodon is now scheduled to return to Spurs before the upcoming campaign, but Leeds supporters are already urging the team to ensure he signs a long-term contract in light of his performances.
Fortunately, TEAMtalk has learned that Rodon is adamant on staying at Elland Road, regardless of the league they play in.
Additionally, it’s unlikely that Spurs will demand too much for the player—the update indicates that they might ask for as much as £15 million for the defender, who will be entering the last year of his contract with the Londoners this summer.
“Permanent relocation to Elland Road has been confirmed to TEAMtalk by sources close to the player.”
Although it seemed like Rodon’s career had stagnated recently, the move to Leeds was the right move, and with Farke’s coaching, he has thrived.
Rodon is essential to the Whites’ strong defence, which has been the foundation of their incredible season even if their offensive players frequently garner the most attention.
He’s not just superb at the fundamentals, but he also has good recovery pace, which helps Leeds press forward, and good ball handling skills, which help launch attacks. Therefore, it makes sense to keep him; he is the team’s perfect defender.
His apparent desire to stay is undoubtedly a huge plus, and Leeds should be able to afford the rumoured fee—though it might be more challenging if they continue in the second division.
When the market opens, the Yorkshire team will undoubtedly prioritise keeping Rodon even though they will wait until the summer to make a choice.
