Leeds United wins battle for transfer target, moves ahead to book medical

Then, Leeds might require a new winger. Jesurun Rak-Sakyi of Crystal Palace became a target over the weekend while on loan; Southampton has made a £7 million offer in an attempt to sign him permanently.

After that was turned down, Saints raised their offer to £12 million for Rak-Sakyi. However, it is rumoured that Palace would rather keep him on loan and send him on, giving Leeds the opportunity to sign Rak-Sakyi to a loan this summer.

Rak-Sakyi is reportedly wanted on loan by 18 of the 24 Championship teams, with Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth and Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United mentioned as potential suitors, according to a South London Press report.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi’s stance amid enormous interest in his services

Rak-Sakyi is attracting a lot of interest after being called “magical” by Roy Hodgson and contributing to 22 goals while on loan at Charlton in 2022–23, despite only playing eight senior games for Palace in the previous season.

However, Rak-Sakyi’s position is that he wants a move to Southampton as Russell Martin continues to splash the cash, despite Palace’s wishes to send him on loan to England’s second tier and keep him permanently.

The Saints have already spent far more than £50 million, which includes signing Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Flynn Downes to two long-term contracts. It remains to be seen if Palace will allow the winger to leave permanently.

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder gives latest Harrison Burrows update after Leeds United links

Following connections with Leeds United over the past 24 hours, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has provided the most recent information regarding Harrison Burrows, the captain of Peterborough United.

Championship teams are showing a lot of interest in Posh captain Burrows, 22, following an incredible season in which he assisted Darren Ferguson with 15 assists and scored a career-high six goals in League One.

Although many teams have been linked to the defender, it was widely believed that Sheffield United was nearing a deal to acquire him. On Monday, Leeds was reported to have taken advantage of Blades’ move for Burrows.

However, the Yorkshire Evening Post made a move for Burrows and Blackburn goal machine Sammie Szmodics down shortly after those reports surfaced. Burrows’ future has been updated by Chris Wilder.

Monday night saw Sheffield United play Harrogate Town as Leeds defeated the League Two team 4-1 last Friday with a 3-0 victory. Following the match, Wilder chatted with Football Heaven on BBC Sport.

He mentioned that there had been numerous discussions about Burrows. But, in an attempt to entice the left-back to Sheffield, Sheffield United claimed to be “pretty close” to completing a deal worth around £3 million.

There’s been a lot of discussion. Because of our proximity, we will have to wait and see what transpires during the next 24 and 48 hours. It’s no secret that we have our eye on a few players, and he mentioned that his profile is one we are considering.

Sheffield United using Jayden Bogle money to secure Burrows

Burrows will soon arrive at Bramall Lane after Leeds paid £5 million to sign Jayden Bogle and raid Wilder’s team. An action that might have benefited from Jamie Shackleton joining Wilder’s side.

With £5 million more in the bank after Bogle arrived, Sheffield United was able to move quickly to finalise a £3 million deal for Burrows. Quite impressive business from Leeds’ competitors, it must be said.

With only Bogle, Junior Firpo, and an injury-prone Sam Byram as options at full-back right now, the Whites still need more depth. Daniel Farke might decide to go with a three-man wing-back lineup.

Daniel Farke has just made a decision which surely confirms ‘world class’ player is staying at Leeds United

Leeds United has seen a significant amount of change this summer.

Since losing to Southampton in the play-off final, the Whites have let 16 players go from Elland Road, and Liam Cooper is not even among them.

Leeds has not yet made an official announcement about Cooper’s departure, but Daniel Farke has all but confirmed he will not be accepting the contract extension that was extended to him.

The 32-year-old had been with Leeds for almost ten years, and his departure along with Stuart Dallas and Luke Ayling signifies a change in leadership at the team.

The three will be sorely missed in the locker room, especially when things get tough, as they were a part of Leeds’ leadership group for almost six years.

Cooper didn’t wear the armband at Leeds last season very often, as he only started eight league games during the 2023–24 season.

He had been replaced by Pascal Struijk until his injury on Boxing Day. But he missed the last half of the season, which gave Ethan Ampadu the opportunity to assume the position.

It had been unclear who would captain the team going into the new season since Struijk is now fully recovered, but Leeds announced on Tuesday night that Ampadu has been formally named club captain.

The 23-year-old will be a part of a leadership group that includes Struijk and Illan Meslier, who will each be vice-captains.

With Meslier joining from Lorient a year later and Struijk joining from Ajax in 2018, these two players are currently among Leeds’ longest-serving members.

Even though none of those players are older than 24, they have gained more than enough experience to fill the position.

Farke decision a huge hint on Meslier future

Marseille has expressed interest in Meslier, one of the players connected to a summertime departure from Elland Road.

Although rumours of Meslier’s initial interest in moving to the South of France surfaced, the rumours have since subsided.

But, Farke’s most recent action demonstrates how much he values Meslier in his team—last season, he was even referred to as “world class” and the best custodian in the league.

If Farke had any concerns about his future, he would not have selected him as vice captain, so that should put an end to any rumours.
