Leeds United midfielder Ethan Ampadu has offered his thoughts on fellow midfielder Archie Gray with the pair having struck up a budding partnership at the beginning of the 2023/24 season.
With two exceptions, Ampadu and Gray have started each of Leeds’ nine Championship games at center midfield this year. The youthful team has appeared 10 times in Daniel Farke’s lineup overall. This is true even though Ampadu joined the team back in July and Gray only made his professional debut in the season opener against Cardiff City.
Both players have made an impression thanks to their ease in possession, positional discipline, and tenacity in ball recovery—qualities that appeal to the Elland Road crowd.
The Welsh international remarked, “I’ve been very impressed.” “He and I got along great. Although he is young, he plays with experience rather than youthful exuberance. He’ll probably get too excited about it if I talk about him too much.
Gray’s midfield partner is in a good position to speak about what it was like to be thrust into senior football at such a young age. Ampadu made his professional debut at the age of 15 for the local team Exeter City before making his Chelsea debut at the age of 17 and six days. Ampadu made his senior international debut for Wales shortly after that, a few months before he turned 18.
Ampadu thinks Gray has potential that can be developed at such a “great club” even though he is still some way from receiving international prominence.
“His performances have demonstrated what he is capable of, but he is aware that his career is just getting started and that he still has a long way to go.
Ampadu vowed, “Anything I can do to try and help him with that I will,”
