Why Leeds United is suing Nottingham Forest for Millions of Pounds#

If Nottingham Forest is found to have committed financial violations, a “long queue of clubs” will demand payment.

Financial expert Kieran Maguire expressed this opinion in an exclusive interview with Football Insider regarding the possibility of additional legal action following Forest’s hearing.

Following the release of their 2022–23 financial statements, Forest was accused of exceeding their £61 million allowable losses over a three-year period, leading to charges of violating the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Before the 2023–24 season ends, the Nottingham-based team will learn the outcome of their trial; if found guilty, they risk losing points.

Sports attorney Simon Leaf reportedly stated that a guilty decision would “open the floodgates” for additional legal action, as reported by iNews.

Leeds United is prepared to sue Forest in order to obtain damages for their relegation, as Football Insider has disclosed.

Since every spot in the table is worth £3.1 million according to this week’s Premier League report, Maguire thinks clubs will demand monetary compensation.

Maguire said to Sean Fisher of Football Insider, “I think many sports lawyers are looking at Range Rover brochures and rubbing their hands with glee.”

“They will be thrilled about the chance to pursue legal action on behalf of teams that placed lower in the table or were demoted, such as Nottingham Forest.

The Premier League annual report was released in the last few days revealing that each position in the Premier League is worth £3.1million pounds.

So if Nottingham Forest are deemed to have been given a sporting advantage if found guilty – and they are innocent until proven otherwise – then expect a long line of clubs ready to claim they have been disadvantaged as a result.

They will want some form of compensation and I suspect that will be financial in nature.
