Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont has revealed his best ever signing and discussed the player ‘that got away’ during his time in charge of the club.
Speaking on the club’s YouTube channel, he answered questions from fans on social media.
He revealed a huge name that they could have signed: “Jarryd Hayne, the one that got away, that I was really looking forward to.
“Oh man, it was done, when he’d come back from American football, everything was done.
“Then there was basically a wedding on a date, literally as the contract was to come through that morning. So that was the one that got away.”
Hayne, after being one of the biggest names in the sport, winning individual awards, tried unsuccessfully to get a career in NFL, being waived by the 49ers.
He also tried to make his way to the 2016 Olympic Games in sevens, but wasn’t picked.
He’s now in prison after being found guilty of rape.

Derek Beaumont, the owner of Leigh Leopards, talked about the player “that got away” and unveiled his best-ever acquisition while leading the team.
Answering queries from supporters on social media, he gave a speech on the team’s YouTube account.
He disclosed a big name that they had the option to sign: “I was really looking forward to Jarryd Hayne, the one that got away.”

“Oh my god, everything was finished when he returned from playing American football.
Then, as the contract was about to expire, there was essentially a wedding on a date.
Moimoi left the Parramatta Eels after more than a decade and two hundred games to sign with Leigh before of the 2015 season.
He signed with the Toronto Wolfpack, who were in RFL League One, when the team was promoted to the Super League.
