‘Dangerous’ Hull KR labelled as ‘genuine contenders’ for Super League title

Silverware hasn’t been a thing for Hull KR in a generation, discounting the Championship League Leaders Shield after their relegation in 2016, but it’s a prospect that’s back on the horizon under head coach Willie Peters.

Since the Australian took over ahead of the 2023 season the Robins have been arguably the third-best and most consistent team across all competitions but they still don’t have a trophy to show for it. However, that could change this season according to former Wigan, Warrington, Huddersfield and Salford star Kevin Brown.

Hull KR is starting to close the gap on Wigan Warriors and St Helens, the top two teams in Super League, but one analyst now says the Robins are “genuine contenders” to win a championship this year rather than merely a prop team.

With the exception of the Championship League Leaders Shield following their relegation in 2016, Hull KR hasn’t had any silverware in a generation, but head coach Willie Peters has revived hopes for the team to win some hardware.

In all tournaments, the Robins have been undoubtedly the third-best and most reliable team since the Australian took charge prior to the 2023 season, although

Regarding the Robins’ status as contenders, Brown remarked, “I think you can see how much confidence they’ve got with the setback of losing the Challenge Cup.” Willie Peters and his crew were severely harmed by that, and they are now entirely focused on the league.

“They’re ranked third, and I think they’re really well placed for a tilt of the second half of the season,” he added in his explanation. Although there have been some doubts about the right edge, I felt that Tyrone May and Peta Hiku in particular looked fantastic during the weekend’s match against Huddersfield. When the season is almost over, I genuinely believe that all of the best teams will be in danger due to the balance of that team.

Hull KR have got an issue on their right edge currently and that is the fact the second-rower James Batchelor is out injured and expected to miss five weeks, as confirmed by the club earlier this week.

That was somewhat evident last night with Castleford Tigers pushing the Robins all the way at Wheldon Road. Hull KR did manage to get over the line but it was a far-from-vintage performance and one that certainly saw them miss their star second-rower
