Isaac Liu moves closer to Super League move with NRL future sealed

Isaac Liu’s move to Leigh Leopards appears to be drawing closer after his departure from Gold Coast Titans was confirmed. The New Zealand international, who Rugby League Live exclusively revealed was closing in on a move to Super League last month, will leave the Titans, who say he will explore opportunities moving forward.

The 33-year-old, who has been nicknamed ‘Iceman’ during an impressive NRL career, has made almost 300 appearances in the competition and won the NRL three times. Leigh have identified him as a replacement for John Asiata given his expertise at loose forward.

In a statement, Titans CEO Steve Mitchell said: “Isaac has had an incredible career in the NRL across both our club and previously at the Roosters. His resume is substantial in terms of what he has been able to achieve in the game, but he’s arguably had just as big of an impact off the field in terms of his leadership.

“At 33 years of age, he’s been able to help shape some of our young forwards and the work he has done while at our club will not quickly be forgotten. We wish Isaac and his family the best for the next stage of his football journey and again thank him for his considerable contribution while at the Titans.”

The Leopards are expected to make significant changes to their squad heading into 2025. David Armstrong has already been confirmed as a new addition, while Tesi Niu is expecting to arrive from the Dolphins. Asiata is leaving alongside the likes of Kai O’Donnell, Tom Amone and Zak Hardaker.
