Leigh Leopards forward Tom Amone has been ruled out of Tuesday’s clash with Wigan Warriors, Adrian Lam has confirmed. Despite being named in Lam’s 21-man squad for Thursday night’s clash with Castleford Tigers, Amone was not involved.
The powerhouse prop wasn’t missed too much, with the Leopards winning 20-10 at Wheldon Road, with a brace from Josh Charnley and tries from Edwin Ipape and Zak Hardaker being enough on the night. However, Amone’s absence was noted by those in attendance.
As such, the 27-year-old was topic of conversation after the game with Lam confirming he has been stood down due to the club’s HIA protocols. The head coach also confirmed Amone is due to sit out of the club’s rearranged game with Wigan Warriors on Tuesday night, too.
As a medical team and with the doctor of our club, we reviewed some footage of the (Saints) game with different angles,” Lam said.
“In the best interest and welfare for Tom, the medical group made a decision to follow the protocols of the HIA.
“We didn’t have that vision there initially, so by doing that, he misses out for 11 or 12 days.”
Leigh have two games to play over the next nine days now with their round two clash with Wigan, postponed due to the Warriors’ involvement in the World Club Challenge, being squeezed in next week. The Leopards will then be in action once more on Sunday when they host Hull FC
Amone will be leaving Leigh Leopards at the end of the season after penning a two-year deal with Canterbury Bulldogs.
