Leyton Orient confirm new deal

The 26-year-old Jaiyesimi joins the O’s prior to the 2024–2025 season after spending three years at Charlton Athletic.

After beginning his career at Dulwich Hamlet, Jaiyesimi earned a contract with Norwich City, a Premier League team, in 2016. During his loan stints at Yeovil Town, Grimsby Town, and Swindon Town, he gained invaluable Football League experience.

He first connected with Orient head coach Richie Wellens at Swindon, where he made 21 appearances and scored four goals. After seeing the winger in action, Wellens was so impressed that he signed Jaiyesimi to a permanent contract with the Robins. There, he scored four more goals in the first half of the 2020–21 campaign before joining Charlton Athletic. Jaiyesimi participated in 64 competitions overall for the Addicks, whilst also spending time on loan at AFC Wimbledon and most recently at Scottish Premiership side, St. Johnstone.

Jaiyesimi said after signing a two-year contract here at E10: “I’ve long admired the club.” I’m looking forward to it and it feels great to be here. We have a full pre-season ahead of us, and I’m eager to get back to work, but I’m ready to go right now if we could.

“I used to work at Swindon with Richie. I believe he brought out the best in me throughout those seasons, which were my greatest ones. We both know what to expect from one other now that I’m here. Together, we experienced great success and were promoted to League One. I’ve worked under him before, so I know how effective his tactics  He knows how to get the best out of players.”

Reunited with Jaiyesimi, Richie Wellens expressed his happiness as well, saying: “A few years ago, I took DJ on loan from Norwich, and he was absolutely outstanding.” He received a large salary move to Charlton, but the position didn’t exactly fit him.

“We’re providing him with the means and the platform to return to his peak performance. Undoubtedly, there is a player there. He’s a highly exciting player when he plays at his best. He possesses strength, skill, and deceit. I’m excited to collaborate with him once more and watch him reach his full potential.”
