Leeds United have sanctioned a loan deal for striker Sonny Perkins this summer to re-join Leyton Orient for the 24/25 season, in the final year of his Elland Road contract.
Leeds’ transfer business is yet to really get going in terms of the first team that Daniel Farke will be working with next season, as housekeeping has taken precedent first.
Whether it’s outgoings or futures resolved for the loan players, or fringe player exits, it’s those that aren’t really part of Farke’s plans that have been addressed first.
Sonny Perkins confirmed departure to Leyton Orient on loan
Leeds have development to keep in mind with their squad of talented players, and that means loans out to the EFL are certain.
Sonny Perkins is once again spending the 2024–2025 season on loan after being little seen since joining from West Ham in 2022.
He was officially announced last week at Leyton Orient, where he played for most of his youth career before moving on to West Ham:
Perkins’ time at Oxford last season was best forgotten; he seldom featured under Liam Manning and later Des Buckingham, spending half the season there before his contract was terminated in January.
After leaving West Ham, he signed a three-year contract with Leeds, but other from a last-minute equalizer against Cardiff City in the FA Cup, he hasn’t really made an impact on the first team here under Jesse Marsch.
However, heading back to the club where he spent his youth might be a great platform for him to impress Leeds and Farke.
Perkins is now in the final 12 months of his contract, which is a worry for a young talent as the club clearly aren’t convinced on sticking with him long-term, but the wording of the announcement from Leeds’ end suggests the door remains open for Perkins to work his way back into the reckoning:
“Everyone at the club would like to wish Sonny well during his time at the Gaughan Group Stadium and we look forward to seeing his development whilst away from the club.”
