Leyton Orient Face stiff Competition From League One Rivals For Midfielder

The 24-year old midfielder, started his career as a youth product at Glentoran, before moving into Birmingham City‘s U18 squad.
The midfielder had his first senior loan spell with Redditch where he spent a month before returning to Birmingham, making nine appearances.
In January 2022 the midfielder joined Middlesbrough where he would go on to make 4 appearances for the club in 18 months scoring once in an FA Cup tie against Mansfield Town before being released in January 2023.
In March 2023 he was picked up by St Mirren where has gone on to play 46 times scoring once.
He is also capped by the Northern Ireland National Team making his debut in June 2024 against Spain as well as representing them at younger age groups.

What is the midfield situation at Leyton Orient?

Currently, in the deeper-lying midfield positions where Coalan likes to operate, there are two defensive-minded midfielders Jordan Brown and veteran midfielder Darren Pratley.
In a more box-to-box type midfield role, there is his Northern Irish counterpart Ethan Galbraith who can play in the 8 or 10 positions, as well as Zech Obiero, who will be looking to make his breakthrough into the first team this season.
So far The O’s have lost Max Sanders who was sold to Crewe Alexandra for an undisclosed fee, as well as Idris El Mizouni whose loan came to an end after two years with the club, who would have operated in one of these roles, so there is a need for more depth to the midfield.

Would this be good business for Leyton Orient?

Currently, with the lack of depth in the middle of the park, there is a need for a progressive-minded midfielder. Caolan last season, averaged 1.34 chances created per 90, as well as winning 65.9% of his duels which ranked him in the 70% percentile.
If a deal were to come off, I believe this would be the replacement for Idris El Mizouni rather than Max Sanders, with the left-footed midfielder being comfortable on the ball and being able to pick a pass to a forward, which is shown by him having an expected assists total of 4.22 and in total getting four assists. Also being a left-footed midfield player would also bring a balance to The O’s midfield.

While the fee would mean a rather large outlay to Orient, they have received fees for Max Sanders, as well as a Bosman fee from Bristol Rovers for Ruel Sotiriou, due to him being under the age of 24.
