Leyton Orient FC lose star despite their reluctance

Crewe Alexandra has announced that midfielder Max Sanders has signed for the club from League One Leyton Orient for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old midfielder only joined The O’s last summer but struggled with injuries throughout the season, and joins The Grecians on a two-year contract, becoming their fourth signing of the Summer Window.

The midfielder came through the ranks at Brighton making three appearances in the EFL Cup. His first senior move was on loan to AFC Wimbledon for the 19/20 season where the midfielder appeared 22 times scoring once and assisting twice.

Upon returning to The Seagulls, the midfielder continued playing for their U23 side before in February 2021 he made a move to Lincoln City. Over a two and a half year spell with The Imps, he appeared 72 times.

The midfielder then made the move to East London side Leyton Orient upon their promotion to League One, however, the midfielder struggled for consistent game time only starting nine games in the league and coming off the bench 18 times. His only goal for The O’s came in a 1-0 away victory to Stevenage.

What will he bring to Crewe Alexandra?

Max Sanders, a 25-year-old midfielder who only joined The O’s last summer but battled injuries the entire season, has signed a two-year contract with Crewe Alexandra, becoming the club’s fourth summer window addition. Max Sanders began his career at Brighton, making three appearances in the EFL Cup. His first senior move was on loan to AFC Wimbledon for the 19/20 season, where he appeared 22 times, scoring once and providing two assists. After returning to The Seagulls, the midfielder continued to play for their U23 team until moving to Lincoln City in February 2021.

Max created 1.58 chances per 90 minutes last season, which ranked him in the 75% percentile compared to other central midfielders. With Crewe losing both Lewis Leigh and Aaron Rowe to returning to their parent clubs this summer, Max could have a significant role to play this season. If Lee Bell sticks to his 4-2-3-1 system, this could be in the works.
