ZECH OBIERO SIGNS NEW DEAL WITH LEYTON ORIENT

Leyton Orient are delighted to confirm that Zech Obiero has signed a new deal with the club, putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract.

At the end of the 2021–2022 season, in April of 2022, Obiero, then 19 years old, made his O’s debut as a starter in the team’s 2-1 victory over Crawley Town.

Obiero has made nine appearances for the team in all competitions since making his debut against the Red Devils. Earlier this month, he made his first start in Sky Bet League One and won man of the match in the 3-1 victory over Cheltenham Town.

The Leyton Orient academy alumnus has also gained important experience playing senior football during his time away from E10, spending loan stints at Cheshunt and Chelmsford City.

Following the completion of his new contract at the team, Obiero declared, “I’m buzzing.” Thank you for the opportunities that I have had here, and I am really happy to get it done.

“My journey at Orient has been a rollercoaster of emotions so far, and seeing other younger players such as Charlie Pegrum getting their chances has shown that there is an opportunity for me to kick on as well. I’ve just kept working until I got my chance.

“The whole team has helped me, but players like Jayden Sweeney and Ruel Sotiriou have really helped me coming through as a young lad, and I can relate to them as they’ve come through the academy too.”

Regarding Obiero’s decision to devote his future to the team, Martin Ling, Director of Football at O, also expressed his sentiments, saying, “Zech thoroughly deserves this new two-year deal here at Leyton Orient.” It demonstrates the outstanding work that our academy players and staff have been doing once again. He has been working hard to earn a spot in the first squad and has done a fantastic job with it in the last few weeks. We feel it is crucial to protect the prospects of our younger players, and we are thrilled that Zach has pledged his future to the team.

Head Coach Richie Wellens was also delighted to secure the future of Obiero, expressing: “Ever since I came to the club, I have been really impressed with Zech. He’s worked tirelessly on the training pitch and after spending some time away from us getting more used to senior football, he has now forced his way into the first-team picture. He’s a really exciting player, and one that we believe can play a big part in the future of our squad going forward.”
