The initiative, which has the backing of Harry Kane, the current England and Bayern Munich star and former O, exhorts supporters to walk 10,000 steps every day in February in behalf of chronically ill youngsters.
The goal of February’s Miles for Smiles challenge, which takes place in conjunction with Children’s Mental Health Week in 2024, is to generate enough money to support Haven House’s continued provision of essential therapeutic care in a safe setting, as well as emotional and psychological welfare.
“As a club, we are all right behind the Miles for Smiles campaign,” stated Richie Wellens, head coach of the Os. Last Christmas, I had the good fortune to visit Haven House and witness firsthand the amazing work they perform.
“You might naturally associate the word “hospice” with palliative care, but Haven House offers much more than that. They serve families in so many various ways, and I know that our club has a long-standing relationship with them. They do an amazing job at it. In February, my staff, players, and I will all be contributing to the campaign.
“Haven House provides vital support for families caring for seriously ill children,” stated former O’s forward Kane. I have been a longtime supporter of Haven House’s amazing work and have witnessed firsthand the beneficial effects the hospice has on needy children and families during their most trying moments.
“It is crucial to acknowledge the tenacity and resolve of these kids and families—they are an inspiration. A successful team is one where Haven House is there to support them at every turn with their mental health.
The Miles for Smiles Challenge seeks to raise over £60,000 to support Haven House’s ability to deliver therapeutic, emotional and psychological care in a secure setting.
Kane went on, “By finishing the Miles for Smiles challenge, you can help families suffering the unthinkable develop resilience and mental wellbeing. As the squad captain, I’m honoured that the Harry Kane Foundation is backing this endeavour. Together, let’s complete those steps and smile.”
Ralph Coulbeck, Chief Executive Officer of Haven House, stated: “We are excited to have the support of Leyton Orient Football Club, the team where Harry played his first senior football games, in addition to being thrilled to partner with Harry Kane and the Harry Kane Foundation.” Every year, Leyton Orient provides us with a range of support, so it’s wonderful to have them involved in our most recent campaign.
“Miles for Smiles embodies much more than just a task. For the benefit of chronically ill children and their families, the community is joining together. The funds raised will enable us to fulfil our goal of offering families and the children in our care complete wellbeing and psychological support.
