Amy James-Turner was pleased with her performance at Brisbane Road on Sunday afternoon despite losing to Aston Villa 2-1 in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

After falling behind on minute 23 when Adriana Leon scored past Barbora Votikova following a strong run into the area, Amy equalised late in the first half by clearing Daphne van Damselaar with her header after jumping the tallest to Eveliina Summanen’s free kick.

The defender’s goal, her second for the Club in the WSL, turned the tide heading into the second half. Martha Thomas and Bethany England both had chances, but Jordan Nobbs’ thunderous effort from the edge of the box proved to be the game-winner.

Amy expressed her disappointment in a post-match interview with SPURSPLAY. We want to win games at home, and we didn’t play well today, in my opinion. We are aware that we are far more competent at doing better.

“Compared to the first half, we performed a lot better in the second half when it came to ball movement and play switching. They won a corner, and I thought we could have handled the long ball more skillfully in that situation. However, in order to ensure that we tighten up in those areas, we must keep working on our set pieces defensively.
