Another Imp Poised For Loan Exit

We anticipated that Hakeeb Adelakun would depart the team this winter, and it appears that the other player we anticipated leaving is about to make a transfer.

Jaden Brown is reportedly moving to St Mirren in the Scottish Premier League, according to reports from north of the border. After being released by Sheffield Wednesday, the 25-year-old was signed this summer, but it’s safe to say he hasn’t impressed and has been absent in recent weeks.

According to The Daily Record, he is relocating north of the border to support The Buddies in their bid to play football in Europe. I’ll end it there.

It’s safe to argue that Jaden Brown’s transfer to City has not been a success because not all moves are successful. I had high expectations for him on the left side of defence given his background and Spurs prospect beginnings, but it just didn’t work out. He may complain about not having enough opportunities, but once he is dropped, there isn’t much for us to discuss.

I have some sympathy for Jaden. I have the feeling that he is a confidence player because he disagreed with my claim that he had a difficult game in a personal message that he wrote me shortly after the Notts County match in the EFL Trophy. It seemed to me like the player wanted to do well so desperately that as soon as he came off the field, he checked supporter reaction. I might be wrong, but part of me identified with that need for validation.

Brown is undoubtedly talented, but things haven’t worked out in this situation. It’s amusing to compare Jamie Robson and Jaden Brown to Harry Toffolo and Tayo Edun, two left-backs who have created headlines and brought us fees, in a week when the accounts have dominated.

It appears that Brown’s tenure at City is coming to an end temporarily, though there’s no assurance that he will go. I haven’t heard anything under embargo from the club, so I’m just reporting what Scottish papers are saying. Will he return is the key question. Though I haven’t ruled out seeing Ali Smith in a City shirt again, I think he will return. But Jaden Brown?
