Sheffield United confirm talk for Liverpool star january transfer window

Sheffield United’s January loan addition of Tyler Morton, a midfielder for Liverpool, may make the difference in their fight for automatic promotion, according to pundit Carlton Palmer.

After an outstanding first half of the season, Sheffield United is presently tied for second place in the Championship standings with Leeds United.

New owners Steve Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy are anticipated to support manager Chris Wilder throughout the January transfer window, which was another encouraging development for the Blades last week when their long-awaited takeover by US-based group COH Sports was finally finalised.

As FLW exclusively disclosed last week, United is intensifying their pursuit of Morton. Wilder will now have more money to spend as he attempts to enhance his squad, but he is also reportedly eager to fill his two remaining loan positions.

Although several teams were rumoured to be interested in signing the 22-year-old in the summer, Morton stayed at Anfield, with his reported £20 million price tag probably acting as a roadblock. Morton has spent the last two seasons on loan in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.

However, Morton has made just three appearances for Arne Slot’s side this season, with all of those coming in the EFL Cup, and he could be set to make a temporary move to Bramall Lane next month.

Carlton Palmer on Sheffield United’s Tyler Morton pursuit

Palmer urged United to finalise a deal for Morton in an exclusive interview with Football League World. He believes the Blades could gain an advantage in the race for automatic promotion if they sign the Liverpool midfielder on loan, especially since Ollie Arblaster is out for the remainder of the season due to injury.

“Sheffield United sit top of the Championship and are going great guns under Chris Wilder, but they are looking to bring in two or three players to the squad in the January transfer window,” Palmer stated.

“Tyler Morton is one of those players they are interested in.

“Morton has a lot of experience because he has played in the Championship on loan at Hull and Blackburn.

“Ollie Arblaster was lost for the remainder of the season, Sheffield United are looking to bring in Morton.

“He hasn’t had much of an impact at Liverpool, so it would be great for Sheffield United to get him and get him playing. With Sheffield United leading the league, I’m sure Arne Slot would be pleased.

“Chris Wilder has stated that his first team is excellent, but he has young players on the bench, therefore he wants to add a little more experience.

“He has had to deal with injuries; at one time, he had six football players from the academy on the pitch against West Brom.

“He’s performed admirably, and he has two loan places available, so adding someone with Tyler Morton’s calibre and expertise at Championship level, that could well be the difference in the race to get automatic promotion.

Tyler Morton would be the perfect short-term Ollie Arblaster replacement for Sheffield United

Arblaster’s injury has not had a damaging impact on United so far, largely due to the impressive performances of Sydie Peck.

It would be harsh on Peck if he was to be dropped, but Morton would arguably be an upgrade on the youngster, and as Palmer says, he is the type of signing that could make the difference for the Blades in their pursuit of an immediate Premier League return.

Wilder has made excellent use of the loan market this season with the additions of Alfie Gilchrist, Harry Souttar and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, and Morton would be another outstanding signing if United can get a deal over the line in January.
