Angels agree to contracts with four of their six arbitration-eligible players

The Los Angeles Angels had six players eligible for arbitration. That’s not a small number, but it’s also not a massive number of players either. Yesterday was the deadline for players and teams to agree to terms to avoid setting up an arbitration hearing. With that in mind, teams were desperate to agree to terms with their players to avoid the brutal process that is arbitration.

Both parties argue why they are entitled to the requests they made in an arbitration hearing before a neutral third party arbitrator. The team contends that the player is insufficient, while the player maintains that he is skilled enough to earn the money. As was the case with Corbin Burnes in Milwaukee just last season, this may give rise to some difficult emotions.

Normally, the Angels were a team that avoided arbitration in only two cases between 2011 and 2021; however, in the most recent offseason, three of their eight eligible players were sent to arbitration. They seem to be on course to send two more players, Taylor Ward and Jose Suarez, to arbitration this offseason.

Due to the eligibility of four of their six players—Patrick Sandoval, Gryphon Canning, and Luis Rengifo, in particular—the Angels were able to avoid arbitration. Every player they agreed upon managed to avoid the situations MLBTradeRumors had predicted.

For the time being, only Taylor Ward and Jose Suarez could not agree on terms. However, since MLBTradeRumors projected an estimate precisely in the middle of these players’ arguments with the team, maybe they could reach an agreement.

Although it’s less frequent, players can still agree to terms after this deadline. The Angels ought to make every effort to avoid arbitration hearings, particularly in the case of players they believe will be crucial to their future, such as
