The Los Angeles Angels are searching for help all over the roster, including to their offensive attack. They want to become a more consistent hitting team, and the front office is looking all around the league to potentially add.
The New York Post’s Jon Heyman is reporting that the Angels are eying one of the top bats left on the open market. The Halos have a need in their designated hitter spot, and slugger J.D. Martinez could make sense to fill it.
The Angels will need to replace a significant amount of production following the departure of Shohei Ohtani. Martinez is the best hitter available in free agency, even though he may not be as good as Ohtani.
With the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023, he enjoyed a fantastic season, hitting.271 with 33 home runs and 103 runs batted in. Martinez would bring veteran experience to the table and be a dynamic bat in the middle of the lineup.
If the players could stay healthy, the Angels could have a potent offence with Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon. Health is always an issue, of course, and the Angels haven’t been able to make it work lately.
However, Martinez flourished while playing for the Dodgers in a stacked lineup; the situation with the Halos might be somewhat similar. In addition, the team features some youthful talent that could add some pop, and he could serve as a mentor for the younger players.
Martinez’s interest might be hampered by the Angels’ current lack of recognition as a serious contender, but money talks. Martinez might be the next big player the Halos are willing to pay a lot of money to sign.
