Former Angels Reliever Signs One-Year Deal With AL West Rival

RHP Trevor Gott has officially signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Oakland Athletics. The seasoned MLB player will return to the American League West for the upcoming season, having started his career there in 2015 with the Los Angeles Angels.

The San Diego Padres selected Gott in the sixth round of the 2013 MLB Draft. He was traded to the Angels in 2014 along with Huston Street in exchange for Taylor Lindsey, R. J. Alvarez, José Rondón, and Elliot Morris, so he would never be able to play for the Padres.

After that, in 2015, Gott made his Major League Baseball debut with the Angels, posting the best 3.02 ERA of his career in 48 games.

After that, he was traded for Yunel Escobar to the Washington Nationals, where he would play for the next three years in the nation’s capital.

After that, Gott played for the New York Mets, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, and Milwaukee Brewers before agreeing to a contract with the Athletics this offseason.

In the event that the Athletics continue to struggle, Gott may be a trade deadline acquisition for a contender if he pitches well and long enough to earn his incentives.

As for the Angels, well, as long as he’s with the A’s, they will definitely play him this season.
