Good news:Angels Sign Texas Rangers Outfielder

 

Former Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun is returning to the American League West to play for a former Rangers manager.

Calhoun was invited to Major League spring training after the Los Angeles Angels signed him to a minor-league contract on Wednesday. Although Calhoun did not play for Ron Washington during his time with the Rangers, he will now, as the Angels have selected the former Rangers captain to guide the team in the upcoming season. Last season, Calhoun was a member of the New York Yankees, where he hit.239/.309/.403/.712 in 44 games with five home runs and sixteen RBI. Due to injuries to the Yankees outfield, including Aaron Judge, he was briefly able to start.

At the 2017 trade deadline, Calhoun became a member of the Rangers, and he was the main piece of a trade that sent Los Angeles Dodgers their then-ace, Yu Darvish. Calhoun was sent to Triple-A Round Rock in 2022 after losing the Rangers’ trust. In an attempt to “put myself in a position to get traded,” he announced that he was headed to Triple-A. On June 10, the Rangers let him go after failing to find a suitor. After spending one week with the Giants in September before being designated for assignment, he eventually signed with the San Francisco Giants, where he primarily played for their Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento.
