Steve Karsay has been hired by the Angels to coach the bullpen, according to Sam Blum and Will Sammon of The Athletic.

Karsay, 51, spent three years from 2019 to 2021 coaching the Brewers’ bullpen. He had previously been employed by Cleveland’s minor league organization as a pitching coach.

Between 1993 and 2006, Karsay had 11 seasons in the professional leagues, missing a few because of injuries. He was a closer with the Yankees from 2002 to 2005, missing just 2003 due to injuries. During his time there, he recorded a 3.39 ERA and recorded 12 saves.

In his first season as an Angels manager, Karsay will report to Ron Washington and collaborate with Barry Enright, the new pitching coach of Los Angeles.

Washington, 71, began his career as a manager of Class-A Capital City (1993–94) and as a coach for the Tides (1991–1992, 1995) in the Mets system. He then worked as an A’s coach in Oakland before being hired by the Rangers in 2007.
