A man, aged in his 40s, has been killed after a fatal hit-and-run in Louth early this morning

Gardai rushed to the scene on Rathmullen Road, Drogheda shortly after 2:30am this morning.

Emergency services were alerted after the man, who was a pedestrian, was found unresponsive on the road.

He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardai confirmed this morning that the vehicle involved in the incident “failed to remain” at the location.

As part of ongoing inquiries, investigating Gardai have since recovered a vehicle of interest.

This vehicle will undergo technical and forensic examination as part of a probe into the fatal hit-and-run.

The scene is currently preserved for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and local traffic diversions are in place.

The local Coroner has been notified, and arrangements are underway for a post-mortem examination.

Gardai have urged any witnesses or persons with information to come forward.

A Garda spokesman said: “Gardai in Drogheda appeal anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

“Additionally, individuals with camera footage, including motorists with dash-cam, from the area at the time are asked to provide it to investigating Gardaí.
