Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, but Mr Moynagh, the sole occupant of one of the cars, was pronounced deceased

A 26-year-old Ardee man who lost his life in a road crash in Collon on Monday has been named locally as Dean Moynagh.

Gardaí in Ardee are continuing to appeal for witnesses following the fatal two-car collision on the R169 in Collon, Co Louth shortly after noon on Friday July 26.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, but Mr Moynagh, the sole occupant of one of the cars, was pronounced deceased.

Mr Moynagh is predeceased by his grandad Jim and will be sadly missed by his beloved and heartbroken mother Gillian and her partner Gary, his cherished son Caídan and his mother Natasha, his heartbroken grandmother Patricia, uncles Damien and Aaron, cousins, grand-uncles, grand-aunts, extended family and good friends.

A childhood friend wrote: “RIP Dean, glad to say we shared many great memories growing up over the years. Thinking of all the Moynagh family at this time. Rest easy pal.”

The occupants of the second car, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 70s, were transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for assessment.

The road at the scene was closed for examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators for a time, and diversions were in place. The local Coroner was notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are also requesting those with camera footage (including dashcam) from the area at the time to make it available to them.
