Louth road closed as man killed in collision

According to a garda spokesperson, two cars collided at Annagassan, Dunleer, Co. Louth, on the R166 at 8:50 a.m.

 

In County Louth this morning, a two-car collision claimed the life of a man.

According to a garda spokesperson, two cars collided at Annagassan, Dunleer, Co. Louth, on the R166 at 8:50 a.m.

The man in his 60s who was operating the first vehicle was declared dead at the scene. His body has been taken from the scene and is now in the mortuary at the Drogheda location of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. There will be a post mortem in due course.

The woman in her 40s who was operating the second vehicle was transported by air to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, where she is undergoing medical attention for severe injuries.

“At this moment, the road is still closed while forensic collision investigators conduct their investigation. There are still local detours in place, according to a spokesperson.

The Ardee Gardaí are pleading with anyone who witnessed this collision to come forward, especially with camera footage and those who were travelling in the vicinity at the time.
