Road closed after Man (20s) dies in two-vehicle road crash in Co Louth

In a collision in Co Louth involving two cars, a man in his 20s lost his life.

It was around noon when the collision happened on the R169 in Collon.

The driver and only person in one of the two cars involved was pronounced dead at the scene, despite the fact that emergency personnel had arrived.

A 60-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman who were in the second car were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for evaluation.

Diverts were in place, and gardaí announced on Sunday night that the road at the scene has been closed for forensic examination.

After notifying the local coroner, a postmortem examination is scheduled.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward and have requested anyone with camera footage from the area at the time of the crash to make it available.
