Road closed as woman dies in Louth crash

Emergency services attended the scene where she was pronounced deceased

A young woman who was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Co Louth in the early hours of this morning has been named locally.

Kate Keenan (25), from Knockbridge in Co Louth, suffered fatal injuries when the van in which she was travelling struck a tree in Carnalogue at approximately 1.50am.

Emergency services attended the scene where she was pronounced dead.

A second person in the van, a man in his 20s, was rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

No other injuries were reported.

A man in his 20s was also arrested in connection with the collision and subsequently detained at a Louth Garda station.

Tributes are being paid to Ms Keenan online following the tragic incident, which took place just days after her 25th birthday.

“What a horrible world. RIP Kate Keenan always a great laugh out of you,” one friend wrote.

Another said: “RIP Kate,” accompanied by a string of heart emojis.

And a third penned: “Rest in peace Kate”.

One other wrote: “RIP Kate, you’ll be sadly missed, my old friend. Plenty (of) good old times we had together, rest easy my friend.”

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and who were travelling in the area at the time, are asked to make this footage available to gardaí.
