Before playing Manchester United this month, Luton Town Football Club stated that it intended to create a new safe standing area for home supporters.
It has previously provided a space specifically for away fans, which was utilised for Tuesday’s game against Brighton.
The club anticipated that by making the adjustment, more fans would be able to attend Premier League games at the stadium.
“Kenilworth Road more accessible, comfortable and accommodating” was the stated benefit of the stand.
Following the Hatters’ match against Bolton Wanderers on January 7, work on the new installation got underway.
The team reported that their discussions with fans regarding safe standing elicited overwhelmingly positive responses.
The intention was to expand the space beyond the Oak Road Stand and do away with open seating for blocks that were situated there.
Once the home end installation is finished, fans will be assigned spots in the standing area.
