Luton Town loan man hailed by EFL boss

Barnsley boss Neill Collins has hailed the ‘quality’ of Luton Town loan man John McAtee.

The attacker was signed by Barnsley for a short time last summer, and he has since made an impact in League One for them.

The Yorkshire team defeated Cambridge United 3-1 on the road yesterday, with Luca Connell scoring the other goal. McAtee, 24, scored a brace for the team.

According to a report by the Barnsley Chronicle, Collins expressed his satisfaction with his performance and added, “I love what Macca brings to our team,” following the game. You can see that he has quality and plays with a spirit that makes our fans able to relate to him. He scored the first goal with ease, and the second was more in line with our expectations.

“I woke up yesterday and felt really sick,” McAtee continued. It was probably a general bug. I followed all of the physiotherapists’ recommendations. I felt better after taking a nap, and this morning I felt even better, so I headed down and happily achieved some goals.

This season, McAtee has been a big impact for Barnsley. In 37 appearances across all competitions, he has scored 13 goals and provided three assists.
The league they play in the following season will probably determine his prospects of making the first team. In the Premier League, Rob Edwards’ men are battling for their lives right now.

McAtee relocated from Grimsby Town to Kenilworth Road in 2022, and he spent the previous season on loan with the Mariners. He has not yet participated in a competitive game for the Hatters’ first squad.

After that, in 2021, he moved to Grimsby, where he scored 16 goals in 39 games to assist the team be promoted from the National League before Luton made an offer.

Although McAtee’s future remains uncertain going into the upcoming transfer window, he will be concentrating on helping Barnsley advance to the Championship for the time being.

They will be eager to get some momentum now that they defeated Cambridge, which was necessary. The trip to The Valley to face Charlton Athletic is the next on the schedule.
