Mick Harford’s strong message to Hatters”

Luton Town’s former player and manager Mick Harford has recorded a ‘get well soon’ message to a Hatters fan who is recovering after having a stroke.

52-year-old John Bavister collapsed at his Luton home and was sent to Luton and Dunstable Hospital. The self-employed carpenter was subsequently sent to London’s Charing Cross for a blood clot extraction procedure. John is scheduled to check himself into a rehabilitation clinic in order to expedite his recuperation, about two weeks after the tragedy.

He was in good health, according to Gary. After getting up in the morning and going upstairs to change, he collapsed at home. That was it; he had suffered a significant stroke.

He has advanced well. When he performs his daily speech and movement activities, he seems to be in a really positive mood. He’s eager to do it every time. He genuinely wants to attend [therapy sessions] and return to his most normal self.

Concerned for Sarah, John’s widow, and his four grandkids, Gary published his appeal and within days he had hundreds of pounds in donations.

According to Gary, John was just one of many people who live week to week or month to month. Financial concerns should not be added to the stress of your partner’s stroke—that is already a serious issue.”

The friendship was sparked by Luton Town FC when the guys first met 12 years ago while on vacation, and both men are Hatters supporters. Legendary Hatters player Mick Harford was more than glad to make a video wishing John well on his recuperation when Gary visited the Luton Town training area. When Gary showed John the footage, “his face lit up.”

Almost £7,000 has been contributed thus far, and the funds will support John’s family while he takes time to heal.

“The response has been brilliant,” stated Gary. It only goes to show how highly regarded he is. For three or four months, [the money] provides them with a little something; it merely keeps them out of trouble financially.
