Winger heads back to the Hatters after loan switch is ended’

The attacker could move again during the window.

Winger Dion Pereira’s loan stay at League Two club Sutton United has finished ahead of schedule, with the attacker returning to Luton Town once more.

The 24-year-old had only made four league starts for the U’s since joining in September, but three of them came in the club’s previous five games, including 90 minutes in a 1-1 tie with Newport County on New Year’s Day. With Sutton struggling for survival, sitting bottom of the table and on the verge of relegation, the club fired manager Matt Grey and appointed ex-Cardiff manager Steve Morison this week.

Pereira has returned to Kenilworth Road, according to a statement on the United website: “The 24-year-old winger made seventeen appearances for us, starting seven, and scoring two goals, both of which came in the FA Cup defeat of Horsham.” While with us, he made his international debut for Antigua and Barbuda, scoring his first goal in November. We wish Dion the best of luck in his future career.

Pereira has struggled to capitalise on his considerable talents since joining Luton in November 2020, having previously played for Watford and Atlanta United. Fast-tracked to the first team squad, he made his Town debut as a substitute in a 3-1 Championship defeat at QPR in May 2021, but only appeared twice more for Luton, both times in the Carabao Cup.

He had a brief loan spell at Yeovil, and was also borrowed twice by Bradford City, starring 28 times for the Bantams, with two goals, and with the transfer window presently open, he might well be on the move again before the deadline on February 1.
