A man has been given an indefinite hospital order after admitted to the manslaughter of his neighbour, who was found stabbed at a supported living complex.
Mohammed Ashraful Choudhury, 26, was found with serious injuries at a flat in Biscot Road, Luton, on 11 January 2023. He died later in hospital.
Cameron Leckey, 33, of Biscot Road, pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder but admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, at Luton Crown Court, in January.
Mr Choudhury’s family, said: “Not a day goes past where we don’t think about him and remain hurt by the events.”
Bedfordshire Police said it was called to the flats to reports that a man had been stabbed.
Living next door to Mr. Choudhury, Leckey was receiving help for long-standing mental health concerns, according to the force. Leckey had previously been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
It stated that he was seen on camera approaching his neighbour while brandishing a big knife before slashing him in the chest.
‘Tragic incident’
The family of Mr. Choudhury stated: “Our family is left with a gaping hole in it and an unfillable emotional fissure.
“Not a day goes past where we don’t think about him and remain hurt by the events, but it’s a price we’ll continue to pay for the cost of loving him.”
It was “a tragic incident,” according to Det Sgt Clare Matier, and Mr. Choudhury’s family was in the force’s thoughts.
