M5 closed after serious crash

The car’s occupants were taken to the hospital right away.

A significant collision this morning  forced the closure of a portion of the M5 in Gloucestershire. At around 2.40 am, Gloucestershire Police were called to a single-vehicle collision close to junction 11A.

Between Gloucester’s junction 11A and Quedgeley’s junction 12, officers blocked the southbound carriageway. By 6.15am, the motorway had fully reopened and traffic had resumed as usual.

The car’s occupants were taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance. Officers conducting the investigation are requesting that witnesses or anyone possessing pertinent dashcam footage contact them.

“M5 Southbound re-opened, delays cleared, accident cleared from J11A A417 (Gloucester / Cirencester) to J12 A430 (Quedgeley / Hardwicke),” according to the traffic monitoring site Inrix. The road has been reopened following recovery. After the two-hour road closure, there are no lingering delays.”

Two people taken to hospital

In an update, Gloucestershire Police stated: “After initial assessments of their injuries, it was determined that the two patients at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital were not seriously hurt. Around six in the morning, the road reopened.”

“M5 Southbound closed, delays due to serious accident, one car involved from J11A A417 (Gloucester / Cirencester) to J12 A430 (Quedgeley / Hardwicke),” according to the most recent Inrix report.

“The accident happened at 02:40, with the M5 closed since 04:15.”

Police issue appeal after serious crash

“The M5 southbound carriageway is closed following a serious collision during the early hours of this morning,” according to Gloucestershire Police. A single vehicle collision near junction 11A resulted in a call to the police just after 2.40 am.

“For medical attention, the car’s occupants have been transported to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. There is a closure in place between junctions 11A and 12, and emergency services are still on the scene. It is advised that drivers take alternate routes and stay away from the area.
