Maidstone murder: Woman jailed for murder

A Maidstone woman fatally stabbed a pub landlord with a kitchen knife, earning her a life sentence in prison.

Matthew Bryant was killed by Stephanie Langley’s planned and unprovoked attack last year; Langley was jailed at Maidstone Crown Court.

Mr. Bryant, 52, was severely wounded by Langley on September 11, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m. near Lower Boxley Road.

Less than twenty minutes before she attacked Mr. Bryant, she had driven to the Hare and Hounds public house and argued with him.

After removing a large kitchen knife from her car at Maidstone East train station, Langley went back to the scene, where Mr. Bryant was outside the pub calling 999 operators to report the earlier argument.

Langley walked over to him and dropped the device. Langley killed the victim by stabbing him twice in the back and then struck him fatally in the chest as the victim turned and leaned to get his phone.

Stephanie Langley’s confession to police is captured on CCTV.

A little while later, Kent Police officers arrived and took her into custody on the spot. Langley, of East Farleigh’s Wilsons Lane, was accused of killing someone and carrying a knife in public.

Although the 54-year-old admitted to having an offensive weapon in his possession, he denied killing Mr. Bryant. After a trial at Maidstone Crown Court on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, she was found guilty of the murder and sent under jail.

Sentenced

Langley was sentenced on Thursday 30 May 2024. She was told she will have to serve a minimum of 24 years before she can be considered for parole.
