Juventus agreed £45m Man City star says Fabrizio Romano’

Kalvin Phillips’ departure from Man City is getting closer as the midfielder is in talks with Juventus over a January move.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the Italian giants have opened talks with City to discuss a deal for Phillips and the player is believed to be open to a transfer.

Juve is expected to give the Manchester club a loan with an option to buy, but the Premier League club is expected to make it mandatory.

It is unclear whether the Serie A team is willing to commit to such a contract at this time, but Romano claims that conversations are ongoing as both parties try to reach an agreement.

Juve will be aware that other teams, such as Newcastle, are interested in Phillips, but Romano told CaughtOffside for his exclusive Daily Briefing column that the Magpies’ lack of European football could hurt their chances of signing Phillips.

“For sure, Newcastle now being out of European football doesn’t help at all to sign targets like Kalvin Phillips and others,” the source familiar with the matter stated.

“But Newcastle will keep going with their strategy, looking for opportunities; they are not desperate, it’s just the beginning of their long-term project.”

Phillips’ eagerness to join Juventus gives Newcastle optimism, considering the Italian giants are also without European football.

Nonetheless, the England star appears to be on his way out of Manchester City, where he has struggled since signing a £45 million deal from Leeds in 2022.
