Man’s body found on land in centre of Mansfield

Police have launched an investigation into an “unexplained” death after a man’s body was found in a Nottinghamshire town. Members of the public discovered the man’s remains on land near Station Road in Mansfield shortly after 5pm on August 19.

Nottinghamshire Police does not currently have an explanation for the man’s death, but said officers believe he may have been there for some time. Officers have not yet provided any more details regarding the body, but have confirmed a forensic investigation is now underway.

A file will be prepared for the coroner once the force has gathered enough evidence from the scene. Chief Inspector Iain Blackstock of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Police officers and forensic investigators are currently working to identify this man and to understand how and when he died.

“Whilst we understand this incident will cause concern in the local community, we do not believe there is any current risk to the wider public.” Police have asked anyone with helpful information to call 101 quoting incident 574 of August 20, 2024.
