As a free agent, Fernandez joins Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia to take the position of Socceroos full-back Aziz Behich, who signed a loan with Cristiano Ronaldo’s team until June.
The 24-year-old Chilean has played for teams like Palestino and Universidad Catolica in his native country for the most of his professional career.
Fernandez joined Argentine outfit Talleres in 2023 before he was loaned to Universidad de Chile that same year.
“Vicente is a proficient attacking left back who has played for some of Chile’s top teams. He can run at players and move forward to provide quality crosses. He is technically sound with the ball. Michael Petrillo, director of football at City, said of him.
He strengthens our left side more because he is a naturally left-footed player and plays strong defence in one-on-one situations.
After midfielder Jimmy Jeggo and Socceroo Marco Tilio (who is on loan from Celtic), he is the most recent newcomer to City.
Fernandez continued, “I’m incredibly thrilled about the chance to join a team like Melbourne City, which has had so much success in recent years.”
