Adam Wharton’s performances with the Eagles may have increased interest in Hayden Hackney.

One of the most intriguing young players in the EFL, Hayden Hackney has become an important member of Middlesbrough’s squad.

Premier League teams are allegedly keeping an eye on him, and the early success of Adam Wharton’s transfer to Palace may lead to more EFL players making Premier League moves.

The 21-year-old Hackney made 36 appearances in the Championship as Middlesbrough advanced to the play-off semi-finals last season, solidifying his place in Michael Carrick’s squad.

The midfield player has made 21 appearances in Middlesbrough’s 32 games this season. With one game remaining, the Teessiders are in 13th place, midtable, 10 points outside of the play-offs.

Hackney’s skill with the ball is what truly jumps out; with 90 touches per game and an average passing accuracy of 88% in the Championship this year (Sofascore), the 21-year-old is starting to take centre stage in everything that happens in the Boro engine room.

Due to Hackney’s rise to prominence at Middlesbrough, there are concerns about his future. It’s been rumoured that Premier League teams are monitoring his development at Riverside.

Adam Wharton, an intriguing EFL breakout player, most recently moved from Blackburn Rovers to Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Wharton’s Palace career is off to a very good start, and that might mean that other Premier League clubs, including Hackney, will have to shell out a lot of money to sign the top Championship prospects this summer.
