Hamilton left the Etihad Stadium’s youth ranks to sign a four-year contract with Boro in the summer, making the move permanent.
Although the highly regarded 21-year-old’s arrival was seen as a huge coup, Hamilton has had difficulty establishing himself in Boro’s senior ranks since relocating to Teesside.
The winger has only started two of his new team’s 17 league games, and when he was brought on as a first-half replacement for Riley McGree due to injury during Wednesday’s home loss to Blackburn Rovers, he failed to leave much of an impression.
Carrick is still hesitant to start Hamilton in games, but he is still certain the young player will become a vital member of the Teesside team.
The Boro manager, whose team will play again tomorrow when they welcome Hull City in a midday kickoff, added, “Micah is a very good player.” He has a lot of talent, but things have changed for him.
He will be alright. It truly comes down to getting into the groove of playing games and football. For him, there will be moments when everything goes incredibly well and moments when nothing really clicks. However, that applies to all players, particularly those who are so young.
The obvious comparisons between Hamilton and Morgan Rogers, who joined Boro from Manchester City a year ago, have hurt Hamilton.
While Rogers took a month or two to settle into his new surrounds at the start of last season, he came on in leaps and bounds during the autumn and had established himself as a permanent fixture in the starting side by the time Aston Villa came calling for his services in January. Now, of course, the 22-year-old is a Premier League regular and full England international.
Although it was always unrealistic to expect Hamilton to advance as quickly, the winger may have anticipated being more active than he has been this season.
If McGree’s leg injury keeps him out and Delano Burgzorg doesn’t get better from the illness that kept him out of the Blackburn loss, he might get a chance to start against Hull tomorrow lunchtime. Carrick says he would be more than happy to give Hamilton more responsibility.
“The settling-in period is something that everyone else experiences,” he remarked. Additionally, I’ve mentioned previously that various players require varying lengths of time to truly get up to speed when they join a new team. However, Micah is doing well, so we aren’t concerned about him.
