Michael Carrick confirms Ben Doak’s stance agreed Liverpool January talk

Ben Doak, who is on loan from Liverpool, is “happy” at the Riverside, according to Middlesbrough head coach Michael Carrick.

The Boro manager made a statement this week on Teesside Live regarding one of the most talked-about subjects around Riverside Stadium as the winter window approaches.

Given that the Scotland international has been instrumental for Middlesbrough thus far this season, the Teessiders will be anxious to keep him in the North East for the entirety of the campaign.

However, Liverpool manager Arne Slot has taken notice of the teenager’s play, which is understandable. As a result, the Boro supporters are worried that the winger may be called up to Anfield in the coming year.

Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick not worried about January Liverpool recall for Ben Doak

As the January transfer window draws near, every Middlesbrough fan is wondering if Liverpool will let the outstanding Scot remain at the Riverside for the remainder of the campaign.

Given Doak’s position and Carrick’s feelings, Boro supporters might have their answer. The Middlesbrough head coach stated on Teesside Live: “To be honest, I’m really cool about it. Not a drama. I believe we are at peace.

Transfer windows are one of the many ifs, buts, and changes that occur in football. To be honest, I’m quite cool about it, even if I’ve told you this enough times.

“I’m pleased with how things are going, and we’ll handle whatever comes up next. Ben is content, we are content, and he is doing well. His demeanour and body language convey his happiness. He continues to put in a lot of effort, enjoys his job, and it works well for us. We’re all set as long as it continues.

“It’s not ifs and buts and comparisons, it’s just that he’s in a good place here, he’s doing well for us,” Carrick said when discussing why Doak is best suited to remain on Teesside for this season. Doak has acknowledged that Middlesbrough is where he feels is the best place for him to continue his development right now.

“He’s had a big impact since he’s been here for sure and we’ve enjoyed having him here. He’s a great character, wants to do well and improve. So far it’s been a really good fit for all of us.”

Boro’s promotion chances could rest on Doak staying at the Riverside beyond January

Few players are as important to their respective teams as Doak is to Middlesbrough, both up and down the Championship.

As one of the top performers in the division and a key component of Carrick’s offensive strategy, the 19-year-old has been a revelation for Boro thus far this season.

Carrick’s other right-wing alternatives all have shortcomings for different reasons, so if he is called up in January, Middlesbrough will undoubtedly need to look for a replacement.

The fact that Isaiah Jones, Marcus Forss, and Micah Hamilton have all failed to score or provide an assist in the Championship this season as of the end of matchday 19 will undoubtedly make the Boro manager less confident that there is a suitable internal substitute.

Forss’ injury and fitness issues have continued into this season, Hamilton seems to be one of those undeveloped players who needs a January loan in order to get more regular playing time, and Jones is in the middle of his worst form since breaking into the first team in 2021–2022.

Middlesbrough’s chances of promotion would therefore undoubtedly suffer if Doak were to leave, therefore Carrick, armed with the testimony of his teenage phenomenon, is making it very evident to Liverpool that Doak must stay in Teesside until the summer.
