Real Salt Lake is among the MLS teams keeping an eye on Middlesbrough’s Matt Crooks, according to a Northern Echo report.
It may come down to a choice for Middlesbrough over the future of the adaptable midfield player.
Thirty-year-old Crooks has made thirty-one appearances in the Championship during the first half of this season, contributing six assists and five goals.
According to the Northern Echo’s situation update, he is reportedly drawing interest from the United States before to the 2024 campaign.
With his contract with Middlesbrough set to expire in the summer of 2025, Crooks will have more than a year left on it.
As they attempt to secure a spot in the playoffs once more, Michael Carrick’s team is not under any rush to cash in on him anytime soon. He has also had plenty of playing time this season.
He might be allowed to leave for a new challenge, though, if an offer came in that they were unable to reject.
He had stints with Huddersfield Town, Accrington Stanley, Rangers, Northampton Town, and Rotherham United before joining Boro.
This winter, Real Salt Lake has been connected to several Football League players besides him. Journalist Tom Bogert on X claims that they support Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass before his Hillsborough contract expires in June.
The Utah team, which placed fifth in the Western Conference the previous season, may view Crooks as a valuable addition to their roster. They were defeated in the playoffs’ opening round.
After forming in 2004, Salt Lake has only ever won the MLS Cup. Bryan Oviedo, a former defender for Sunderland and Everton, presently plays for them, and they appear to be searching the English market for possible additions.
