Former Sheffield United forward James Wilson has been released by Port Vale, while goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler, who was previously with Huddersfield Town, is also leaving.
After being demoted to League Two, Vale promptly released its retained list. Darren Moore, who assumed leadership in February, will now have the opportunity to shape the team in his image.
Wilson and Leutwiler are two of the three experienced players who were released after the regular League One season concluded. Gavin Massey, a veteran winger, is also leaving after his contract expires.
The team thanked the players who will be departing at the conclusion of their contracts for their contributions to the team and wished them the best of luck in their future endeavours in a statement.
While Wilson was still on Manchester United’s roster in January 2018, he went on loan to Sheffield United. Despite having a strong background when he arrived at Bramall Lane, he only made nine appearances and scored one goal for the Blades.
Prior to joining Port Vale in 2021, he had spells with Aberdeen and Salford City following his departure from Manchester United. He will be leaving the Valiants, having played 105 games for the team.
Conversely, Leutwiler is expected to leave Vale after just four appearances in goal. He agreed to a one-year contract with Vale Park last summer, and when it expires in a few months, he will be leaving.
The seasoned goalie was an understudy at both the Riverside and John Smith’s Stadiums, although he has played for Middlesbrough and Huddersfield in the past.
