Police patrols have been stepped up in Middleton town centre after two armed robberies and an assault in the last week.
Local officers will be a ‘high visibility presence’ around the town centre following a number of incidents that have caused concern among residents.
The incident came less than 48 hours after another robbery at the Spar shop on Hollins Lane. Staff were left ‘extremely shaken’ after the offender was said to have walked in ‘wielding a knife’.
Days earlier, on August 10, a man in his 20s was rushed to hospital after being ‘slashed’ in a reported knife attack in the town centre. Two men were later arrested on suspicion of assault.
On Thursday, the force said that there would be a ‘increased high visibility presence’ from officers in and around the town centre, targeting specific ‘violent crime hotspots’
A spokesperson for the force posted on social media: “We are aware of concerns raised by some local residents with regards to recent incidents in Middleton, particularly in and around the town centre.
“Whilst investigations are ongoing into these incidents, with some arrests and charges already secured, you will also notice an increased high visibility presence from your neighbourhood team in the coming days to offer reassurance.
“We also have additional officers from the forcewide Op Venture team, specifically targeting violent crime hotspots in the town.
“Anyone who is concerned about crime or anti-social behaviour in the town is encouraged to speak to our officers. They are there to listen and take action.”
Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for updates on the three separate incidents.
