Man fighting for life after being stabbed following car crash in Middleton

A man is fighting for his life after being stabbed following a car crash in Middleton on Thursday night (August 22). Police and paramedics were called to Rochdale Road at around 8.30pm to reports of the road traffic collision.

When crews arrived, they found a man with stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital from the scene and is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told of how horrified locals ran out to try and help following the collision, which they claim happened after a car was being ‘chased’, with the victim later attacked.

A local resident, who asked not to be named said: “A friend of mine heard the crash and went running out. They were throwing towels and sheets at him to stop the bleeding before police came.

“The black car crashed and he [the driver] tried running away, and then, from the white Golf that was chasing him, someone got out and did what they did to him.”

Police and paramedics raced to the scene and cordoned off the area. The crash was reported beside the junction for Hollin Lane which was taped off late into Monday evening amid investigations.

A GMP spokesperson said: “We were called to Rochdale Road in Middleton, Rochdale at around 8:30pm tonight to initial reports of a road traffic collision.

“Officers arrived and found a man with stab wounds and is currently receiving treatment for what is believed to be life-threatening injuries. A scene remains in place whilst detectives continue to conduct enquiries.”
