4 players Millwall FC scouting ahead of January transfer window

The number nine spot must be a priority for Joe Edwards when thinking about the January transfer window

The primary issue facing the Lions is that they have only managed to score 19 goals in their 16 Championship games. This is primarily because Zian Flemming and Tom Bradshaw have not been able to duplicate their impressive play from the previous season, and summer acquisition Kevin Nisbet has been somewhat of a bust, having only managed to score two goals for the Londoners since joining from Hibernian.

When considering the January transfer window, Joe Edwards needs to prioritise the number nine spot.

Jamie Reid

Reid, who scored 10 goals and provided six assists to help Stevenage win promotion from League Two the previous season, is now third in League One with 10 goals in 16 games.

Despite playing in a higher level, he has already equaled his return from the previous season, allowing Stevenage to enjoy life in the third-tier play-off spots.

This season, the former Mansfield player has moved smoothly from League Two to League One and is experiencing an incredible ascent.

The 29-year-old, who obviously has an eye for goal in all categories, is someone the Lions could do worse than take a chance on.

Furthermore, Reid’s goals against Stoke City and Aston Villa during Stevenage’s thrilling FA Cup run last season demonstrated his ability to score against elite competition.

Macaulay Langstaff

For the Magpies, the hot-shot has scored 54 goals in just 67 games.

Perhaps it is surprising that no team signed the 26-year-old in the summer since he had an incredible return of 42 goals in the 2022–2023 National League season, which saw Notts promoted via the play-offs.

Langstaff, who has 11 goals in 17 League Two games, has truly adapted to life in the Football League.

Sem Steijn

FC Twente midfielder Sem Steijn is the fourth-highest scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie this season with eight goals in 12 top-flight matches this campaign.

His club are currently third in the Eredivisie this campaign, which means that they are in contention for the Champions League.

However, the Lions may still be able to lure the Dutchman to the club due to the pull of English football.

Millwall also have a proven track record when it comes to signing players from the Eredivisie.

Last season’s summer signing, Flemming, arrived from Dutch outfit Fortuna Sittard and scored an impressive 15 goals in the Championship as the Lions finished 8th.

Mark O’Mahony

Mark O’Mahony, 18, is the second-highest goal scorer in Premier League 2, having scored nine goals for Brighton’s academy, who are now ranked sixth in the division.

The young Irish player, who could use a loan transfer to a Championship team to demonstrate his value in senior football, has a clear eye for goal.

In January, Brighton and Millwall might make a deal for the young player that would benefit all three of them.

If the Lions play their cards correctly here, they could potentially uncover a gem.
